It’s that time again, folks. American Idol is about to cast off one of the Top 7, thanks to America’s votes, so that we can narrow that contestant pool for next week’s performances. So who’s going to sing their final song tonight? In our opinion, Jess Meuse is going up on the chopping block this week.

Singing Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder and Lead,” Jess delivered one of her most lackluster performances of the season. We hate to see it from her because she has so much potential and incredible talent — she just doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. Maybe she’s not good under pressure? Totally understandable. It’d be hard to think of a more pressure-filled situation for musicians than singing for their career once a week on Idol, at the mercy of America’s mouse clicks.

Still, we — and probably the judges, too — expect more impressive performances out of Jess. Considering the fact that she’s such a well-seasoned performer, having sung her heart out to both crowds and empty bars, she should’ve hit the Idol stage running. Instead, she often ends up looking like a deer in the headlights and we just want to give her a hug.

The judges’ reviews of Jess had nothing positive to say last night, either, which makes us nervous for her fate on the show… especially after Harry (and J.Lo and Keith… and even guest judge Demi Lovato) said her trio performance with Dexter Roberts and CJ Harris was flat out bad.

Harry noted that Jess shows a “lack of rhythmic delivery” while she’s performing, especially when it comes to dancing… and J.Lo added that not only was she “off vocally,” but she also looked uncomfortable on stage. Judging by Jess’s facial expression while the judges were critiquing, we can safely assume her uncomfortable levels were rising significantly by the minute. Poor Jess!

We know Jess could be an awesome artist if she could get this performing thing down right. Maybe she’ll get another chance next week, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t.

Do you agree that Jess won’t make it to the Top 6, or do you think someone else is going home tonight?
