As much as our cynical hearts love the ruthlessness of American Idol, we’ve got to be totally honest: We’ve gotten pretty attached to this year’s group of super talented contestants. Each Thursday gets harder and harder as we watch yet another one of our beloved hopefuls pack their bags and say goodbye... especially if J.Lo starts tearing up, as she has a tendency to do.
Of course, this is a competition show and only one singer can reign supreme. More bluntly put, tonight (April 17) Ryan Seacrest revealed which of the remaining contestants got the smallest number of votes from the country and was immediately eliminated from the show. (Sorry, guys. No more save now that the judges used their only one on Sam Woolf!)
So, who got voted off American Idol tonight? Sadly, we had to say goodbye to country boy Dexter Roberts, who found himself in the bottom two along with Jessica Meuse. Of course, in the grand tradition of the show, Dexter got the opportunity to sing one last song, opting to go with his Top 12 pick, “Lucky Man” by Montgomery Gentry.
As sad as we are to see Dexter take his final bow, this year’s performances just keep getting better and better! We can’t wait to see what the Top 6 pull out of their bag of tricks for next week, and we wish Dexter all the best in the future!
American Idol returns on Wednesday, April 23 for the Top 6 performances!
