With prom right around the corner, we can’t help but wonder what our favorite stars were like on high school’s biggest night. Did they rock a poufy taffeta dress? Have their hair teased to new heights? Rent a cheesy limo? The questions are endless! (Of course, we also have to wonder what went down after prom was over, but we’ve decided to keep it classy and not even go there.)
Turns out, one of the American Idol judges didn’t even go to prom, because guess what — he’d already dropped out of school! That’s right: While Jennifer Lopez was wearing a gown of her own design (pink mermaid with a halter back, in case you were wondering), Keith Urban was busy focusing on his career.
During an interview with E! News following the April 24 results show, Keith revealed that he “left school at 15” and “missed out on tons of stuff.” While we’re sure Keith wouldn’t recommend dropping out of school, there’s no denying that the choice worked out for him in the end!
He may not have a high school diploma, but Keith’s still a big advocate for education, especially in the arts. He was one of the first celebrity supporters of Music Makes Us, a program which works to raise money for music curriculum in public schools.
“I think there are a lot of kids who are talented in a musical way that haven’t even realized it yet,” he spilled to NashvilleArts.com. “I think there are a lot of kids who struggle to communicate and articulate and connect and have not found a way to do it yet. And I’ve seen it with kids who stumble upon [music]. They suddenly find this connection — it’s another voice.”
