American Idol bonds are bonds that last for life — just ask Clay Aiken. Now that he’s officially running for Congress in North Carolina, he enlisted a buddy from his Idol days to help his campaign: Ruben Studdard. Clay may have come in second to Ruben on their days on that Idol stage, and now Ruben’s doing what he can to make sure Clay gets his turn in the spotlight.
In a new radio ad in support of Clay, Ruben explains why listeners should vote for him despite the fact Clay has come under fire from one of his opponents.
“I’m proud to call him my friend, but you’ll be proud to call him your congressman,” Ruben says. “Now one of his opponents is attacking him for not showing up for some meetings. Truth is, Clay’s dedicated his life to helping people with disabilities.”
Makes you glad there’s no mudslinging on AI… well, that we know of, anyway.
“Now Clay’s foundation helps children with special needs in 35 states,” Ruben continues. “That’s the real Clay Aiken, and Congress needs more people like him.”
After Ruben’s part is done, Clay jumps in to let listeners know he approves Ruben’s message. “We already have too many Washington politicians who will say anything to get elected,” he says. “I’m running for Congress because I’ve always believed that public service should be about helping others. We need more people in Congress who believe that, too.”
Ooh, a little sass! We like it. We know Clay’s hoping that the people from North Carolina who voted for him on Idol will be willing to vote for him again. Good luck, Clay!
