It may have been two years since Jennifer Lopez called it quits with ex-husband Marc Anthony, but she’ll never forget how hard their “devastating” divorce was for her. But, like most bad breakups, the American Idol judge says the experience taught her something she couldn’t have learned without going through such a difficult time.
“I went through a tremendous low,” J.Lo admits to People, “but I wouldn’t change anything [about my past] because it made me who I am.”
Considering the fact that Jennifer and Marc were married for eight years, it’s not surprising dealing with their split was a huge struggle for the 44-year-old singer. It was also something she needed to do in order to realize that for a relationship to work, you have to be OK by yourself, too.
“As a woman, we can sometimes give ourselves away,” Jen adds. “I was certainly guilty of that for some time. Now I realize I am good on my own, so now I can share my life with somebody.”
And sharing her life she is. Not only is J.Lo dating Casper Smart, who’s best buds with Marc, she’s got her hands full with her kids, 6-year-old twins Emme and Max. She says she went “through a huge growth spurt” when she became a mom.
“Having my babies allowed me to realize what real unconditional love was,” she says.
Here’s hoping that this time around J.Lo has found true love — and if not, she’ll always have Emme and Max!
Do you think J.Lo and Marc are better off apart, or do you wish they were still together?
