Guys, it's over. Tonight American Idol 2014 Season 13 came to a close and we crowned ourselves a champion. It was neck and neck until the end as Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene Asciutto battled it out. We were torn over which star would be the star for the thirteenth season of this reality TV staple but now we have our answer. Our new question: Was it the right choice?

We've said it before and it's worth saying again: This race was one of the closest in Idol's 12-year history. Caleb and Jena were so well-matched we found our vote changing practically song by song during the one-hour performance episode on May 20. Sure, Caleb and Jena are at opposite ends of the musical spectrum in terms of genre but vocally they've clearly been front-runners in the competition since Day 1.

So when Caleb learned he was the champion we couldn't help but feel a touch dismayed for Jena. Obviously this doesn't mean the end of the road for her when it comes to her musical career (see Jennifer Hudson) but it does mean she won't be able to call herself those two little words: American Idol.

That said, we can't help but see the people's point. Caleb's a talented performer and while we might personally think Jena's got the most polish and shine, Caleb can be totally honed into a pop star. That kid's going to soar no matter what and might as well be with the help of Fox.

But that's just our long-winded opinion. What do you think? Was the right person crowned American Idol's newest winner? The comments are open below so start your discussion now!
