We’re pretty sure anything but a Scotty McCreery coronation is a long shot, but stranger things have happened on American Idol. Country girl Lauren Alaina could certainly pull an upset — Steven Tyler pegged her as a potential winner back during the auditions. Here are five reasons that the bubbly blonde teen from Rossville, Georgia, just might take it all.

Two words: Taylor Swift. Swifty has proven that beyond a doubt, there's a huge market for young female country-pop. And — let’s be honest — Lauren is a much better singer than Taylor. Could TSwift’s massive fanbase be willing to embrace Lauren, too? If so, that could push her to victory.

Four more words: Kelly Clarkson. Carrie Underwood. Okay, we're not so sure that Lauren quite measures up to either of those former Idol champs, but her style is vaguely reminiscent of both, with some of Kelly’s sassy but sweet charm, and a bit of Carrie’s wide-eyed country gal appeal. Evoking two of AI's biggest stars could certainly work in her favor.

She's a belter. Lauren's singing style has always been popular with Idol voters, especially when it comes to female singers, like Kelly, Carrie, and Jordin. Many AI fans just love to watch a big-voiced singer like Lauren tearfully performing a soaring ballad on the stage of the Kodak Theater in the finale. She's definitely got the required pipes.

The judges love her. Of course, this season the judges mostly love everyone. Still, don't underestimate the power of the judges. Simon would undoubtedly hold more sway with voters than Steven, but the judges' endorsement won't hurt. While the audience frequently ignores the judges on finale night, the Top 2 are almost always the contestants the judges praised the most the week before.

If Scotty goes, she's golden. The chances of it happening are slim, but if by some miracle Scotty doesn't make the finale (miracle for Lauren, we mean, not in general), Miss Alaina ends up in a very good position. Why? Because she'd be likely to pick up the majority of Scotty's voters, since they're both young country singers from the South.
