We chuckled when we first heard Phillip Phillips’ name, but as soon as we heard him sing, we knew he was no joke. This dreamy musician became an early frontrunner on has now moved on to the finale, competing for the crown against 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez. Can he win? Here are five reasons why we think so:

He’s totally adorable.
Looks may not be everything, but they certainly don’t hurt. Since Phillip has become the heartthrob of American Idol, you can bet that teenage girls everywhere will be voting. It’s no coincidence that a guy has won the competition every year since 2008.

He’s multi-talented.
It's no secret that Jessica Sanchez has an amazing voice. While Phillip doesn't can't exactly match the pint-sized singer's vocal range, the fact that he has a great voice and he's also skilled on a handful of instruments gives him an edge. With his Dave Matthews sound-alike vocals and his ability to play the guitar, bass, piano, and drums, we can’t help but be impressed. Honestly, how does anyone even compete with that?

He is versatile.
Week after week, Phillip has proven that he can take on any genre of music. We’ve seen him cover everything from funk to doo-wop and have yet to hear him do anything we didn’t like. His greatest strength is that he apparently has no weaknesses.

He has good instincts.
There’s a reason that Phillip can seemingly pull off anything: He consistently chooses songs that are right for him.

He’s powering through an illness.
Clearly, Phillip’s in it to win it. Not even a painful case of kidney stones has been able to stop him from going all out on American Idol. We hate that he’s suffering, but luckily for him, so does everyone else. You know what that means: Sympathy vote!
