This has been an exciting week for American Idol fans. Not only did we learn who was crowned the newest champion, but we also got a new album from one of our all-time favorite runner-ups (and no, we're not talking about Justin Guarini).
That's right — Adam Lambert released his new album, Trespassing, on May 15, and it has officially hit No. 1 on the charts! Big congrats go out to Adam, as this also makes him the first openly gay artist to top the albums chart. Mo. 2 on the charts this week went to Adele, and Carrie Underwood — another Idol alum — was at No. 3.
This is obviously an exciting time for Adam — who can also wear a pair of sunglasses like nobody's business — but the news wasn't entirely rosy. Trespassing sold 77,000 copies this week, which is fewer than half of the 198,000 copies that were sold by Adam's debut album, For Your Entertainment, in its first week in November 2009. Part of the problem was that Trespassing has yet to produce a massive single, but we have a feeling that's only a matter of time.
And for those who are wondering whether Adam or Kris Allen — the guy who bested him for the crown on the show — will have the bigger career, we may get a clear sign by this time next week. Kris Allen's newest album, Thank You Camellia, was released this Tuesday. These two dudes just can't stop competing, can they?
