All day, we’d been hearing that the Top 7 Season 11 contestant who landed in the Bottom 3 and was up for elimination would shock America. Both Ryan Seacrest and American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted that they were stunned by one of the names in the list, and TMZ reported that the powers that be were trying to persuade the judges to save the fan favorite. No wonder, since it turned out to be Jessica Sanchez.

Mentor Jimmy Iovine correctly predicted DeAndre Brackensick would be in trouble last week, but no one saw this coming. He thought Hollie Cavanagh, Phillip Phillips, and Elise Testone got the fewest votes this week. The Bottom 3 was pretty much the opposite. Elise,  Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet were all up on the chopping block. “They got it wrong,” Randy Jackson said. “We’re using our save,” said Steven Tyler, pretty much killing the suspense with 5 minutes and a “sing for your life” performance to go.

Jessica only got a few words into her song when Jennifer Lopez grabbed the mike, saying they weren’t sending her home. “This girl is one of the best singers in America. Ever,” said Randy, after they officially saved Jessica.

Whew! Good thing they didn’t use their save any earlier in the season...
