The American Idol finale is nearly upon us. This week, finalists Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips will give it their all one last time in an effort to win over voters and earn the title of this year’s American Idol.

The two have both had an extremely successful showing so far, and there are equally compelling reasons why voters might choose Jessica or pick Phillip as the winner this week. We thought it would be interesting to poke around the web to see if either of them have an edge based on a little bit of number crunching.

Let’s start with the social networks. As of right now, Jessica’s Twitter page has just over 400,500 followers, while Phillip’s Twitter page falls slightly behind with over 316,750 followers. Similarly, Jessica’s got way more Facebook friends on her page, with more than 239,500 likes, and  Phillip’s got the thumbs up from about 194,100 people on his. So far, the digital personality presence edge goes to Team Jessica.

However, Team Phillip wins the day on Google search results, as his name brings up more than 55.9 million results, while Jessica’s yields 31 million.

A second numerical advantage for Phillip is that he’s the only contestant from Season 11 (so far) who’s never been in the Bottom 2 or 3. During April 12th’s Top 7 competition, Jessica had to be saved from elimination by the judges. But Phillip’s made it all the way to the finals completely unscathed, giving him another notch on his side of the board.

So we’re left with a 50/50 split after all. Who are you rooting for? Let us know in the comments!
