A frontrunner from the beginning, the new American Idol winner Phillip Phillips has wowed the judges and made ladies across America swoon with his guitar-playing, Dave Matthews-loving ways. To celebrate his big win, here are our Top 3 favorite Phillip moments:

Damien Rice’s “Volcano”
Before tackling this simple but gorgeous song during the Top 4, Phillip had been criticized by Jimmy Iovine for “coasting” during his recent performances. While we won’t exactly disagree, P2 brought it home with his version of the Irish singer-songwriter’s tune.

Drew Pearson’s “Home”
As far as Idol finale songs go, this choice for Phillip fit him to a T. The Mumford and Sons-inspired track was written by Drew Pearson and originally meant for British artist Greg Holden. We were prepared to cringe, but instead we were blown away by Phillip’s spot-on vocals and effortless confidence.

Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight”
We won’t lie: Choosing who to boot from the Top 3 was the toughest decision we’ve seen on Idol in a while. But when Phillip took the stage with this romantic Bob Seger tune, we were sold on seeing him in the finale.

Honorable Mention: Usher’s “U Got It Bad”
Phillip is a rock and folk kind of guy, so we were more than a little alarmed when he decided to take on this Usher hit. Thankfully, he pulled through with a sultry and unique interpretation that left us admittedly starry eyed.
