Last night was a huge night for Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips, the final two left standing on Season 11 of American Idol. Following their finale performances, the finalists spoke with reporters on the red carpet about how they feel going into the big reveal, and how they’ve relied on each other through this experience.
How are you feeling?
Jessica Sanchez: I don't know. I feel like, it's pretty much... We're just trying to have fun right now. It's the finale. We're Top 2. Win or lose, we both won.
Don't you want to win?
Jessica: Of course we all wanted to win. It's come to the point where nobody really makes it this far, for a 16-year-old and someone like Phillip (laughs). I love that I'm with him in the Top 2. He's an amazing person.
What's “someone like Phillip”?
Phillip Phillips: An old man (laughs).
Jessica: No! He's goofy. He's funny. He's just an amazing artist. He's an amazing friend overall.
Which of the three performances tonight were your favorites?
Phillip: Probably all three of Jessica's (laughs)!
Jessica: Oh yeah, mine were all three of his.
Did you get to talk to the judges after, and if so, what did they say to you?
Jessica: Not really. We never get to really talk to them after. Every interaction we get is on stage, when they give us criticism, I think we both take it and work on it and just thank them so much because they're trying to make us a better musician.
Have you processed what they said tonight about your performances?
Phillip: Yeah. It's all so much to take. They want to help us out. We take it in. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't, so we just take it in and do the best with what we can.
Are you afraid your going to miss any tour dates with your surgery?
Phillip: No, no, no. I am excited for the tour..
How do you plan on getting any sleep tonight?
Phillip: I am going to turn all the lights off, and crawl into bed, and fall asleep.
How did you feel personally about your performances?
Jessica: We had a lot of stuff on our shoulders. Tomorrow is the last episode of the season. Sure, we will be on tour together but this competition has been really tiring.
You rely on each other?
Phillip: Yeah, exactly. We made friends and some closer than others. You always have your family, but when it comes down to this, sometimes it tough to talk to them as well.
