American Idol 2013 Top 10 finalist Amber Holcomb is one of many contestants who returned this year hoping for another chance to prove they have what it takes to win. She may be a bit “sad” at leaving her boyfriend behind to compete on Idol, Amber tells Wetpaint in an exclusive interview, but the sacrifice is worth it.

Like fellow Season 12 Top 10 competitors Candice Glover and Curtis Finch Jr., Amber has been down the American Idol road before, but she doesn’t plan on any detours getting in her way this time around. That doesn’t mean, however, that she can’t make friends along the way.

Who are you closest to in the competition?

Oh, wow, Devin [Velez]. I'm close with everybody. Me and Candice and Curtis, we were all here last year. So I mean we automatically got that little going on. We've been wanting this since last year. We all came here last year, and just being here again and seeing each other. So I didn't look like this last year. They’re like, dang, Amber, you’re not even the same person. It was great.

Which judge do you feel you connected with the most?

Randy because he saw me last year, and this year's that much of a change. So he told me he was proud of me, and that's all I really wanted to hear.

Is there a special significant other out there supporting you?

Yes. His name is Lamar Denson. He's like my best friend. That's the person I call at night and just talk to and keeps me grounded.

Is it hard to be away from him?

Yes, when we're like driving or in the mall, and I see little cute couples, it makes me sad sometimes.
