If you listen to On-Air With Ryan Seacrest, you know that he’s hinted that the limelight goes to the heads of some of these American Idol hopefuls. But those from Anchorage, Alaska, say not to expect that from American Idol 2013 hopeful Adriana Latonio. In fact, the choral director at East High School, Melissa Bledsoe Fischer, tells a story of the 17-year-old honors student asking her to use the practice room to prepare for the show.

"Of course I said yes," said Fischer. "It was almost surreal that she was asking for permission. That's how she is. Just the nicest kid. Not an ounce of arrogance or pretentiousness.”

One of Adriana’s high school peers, Grace Graham, says Adriana is “always bubbly and happy. You hardly ever see her frowning. She’s always having fun.”

But don’t mistake her nice demeanor for complacency. This tiny girl with Filipino roots is nothing if not competitive and totally determined. In fact, she sang in the open air market in Anchorage to raise money to audition. And family friend Sgt. Melvin Tamondong said Adriana has been honing her craft since she was a toddler.

"She's been singing ever since she was two," he said. "She's worked hard on it. This doesn't just happen overnight."

The petite singer makes time for fun, though. In fact, she has one sister, Amanda, and a large extended family there in Alaska, and they all get together for parties and to sing karaoke.

Adriana is a triple threat, as she not only sings, but she’s an actor and an “excellent dancer,” according to her vocal coach, Mitch Tubman. “Big Mitch,” as he’s called, says America is going to be shocked by Adriana’s talent.

In the interview with Anchorage Daily News, Big Mitch didn't want to give away too much, but he did promise this: "America will be surprised at her."
