The girls of season 12 of American Idol 2013 are in it to win it, as The Dawg Randy Jackson would say.
Each performance from the American Idol Top 5 ladies was better than the last Wednesday night, and the moment...you know THE moment...definitely belonged to Candice Glover with her insanely amazing rendition of The Cure’s “Lovesong”. She not only got a double dose (double dose, people!) of glitter from Mimi, and TWO standing ovations, but Randy Jackson declared it “one of the greatest performances in the 12 years of American Idol.” We might even go so far as to say it was THE best performance but, then again, our memories are short. Must begin our ginkgo biloba regimen.
This begs the question, of course, “Who is going home tonight on American Idol?” The writing is on the wall, folks. Isn’t it? Please tell us it is! We think that even pity votes won’t get Lazaro Arbos beyond his cringeworthy performances of “Close To You” and “Angels”.
The judges were particularly harsh on him, and it seemed as though they were enlisting an old Simon Cowell trick. If you flat out tell people someone stinks, they might start believing you. Randy was in on it, saying after his first performance, ““No, no, no, NO! That was horrible. I’m speechless." Mariah, who’d apparently gotten her hand slapped by the powers that be for being too nice, got technical with him, saying, “We can't go into a new key and you stay in the old key.” She put the final nail in the coffin with, “This is kind of a big deal."
Even Laz ally Nicki Minaj couldn’t bail him out this week, and she chose not to say anything at all. “Let’s just pretend I already gave my comment,” she joked. Keith Urban played his nice guy role perfectly, basically telling Laz that the girls are stomping all over him like he’s an ant in the Running of the Bulls (okay, he said it in a sweeter way than that).
While we think Janelle Arthur's time may be up soon enough, we think Laz will be one step ahead. Lazaro has Sanjaya’d his way through these past few weeks, but we think his time is up as of tonight’s one-hour results show. Tune in to find out if we’re (hopefully!) right at 8 p.m. ET on FOX and join us for our live American Idol results recap right here at Wetpaint!
