Eleven season of TV’s hottest singing competition have come and gone. Along the way, fans have watched superstars born and favorites fall into obscurity. Through it all there has been the dream everyone can connect with — rising from nothing into a life of fame, fortune and the adoration of millions.
Over the past 11 seasons, some of American Idol’s most talented competitors have gone on to launch astonishingly successful careers. Kelly Clarkson, the original American Idol, is still topping the charts and has millions of fans worldwide. Carrie Underwood has carved herself a permanent place in country music history.
Oh, and let’s not forget the astounding Jennifer Hudson, who went on to become not only a Grammy Award-winning artist but also an Academy Award and Golden Globe winner. She wasn’t even the champion of her season — she was eliminated in week 7!
On the other hand, fans have watched many truly horrifying American Idol auditions over the years showcasing the craziest performances imaginable. There have also been a fair number of American Idol winners and Top 3 finalists who have failed to move on to true success in the music industry, or just simply vanished back into the mist.
What happened to Taylor Hicks or Lee DeWyze, for example? Well, they are still around, but they’ve never really become household names beyond their time on Idol. As for contestants like Justin Guarini, Nikki McKibbin or Vonzell Soloman, do you even remember what they sounded like?
Will the person who wins American Idol 2013 be another shining comet among the stars of the music industry, proving the show still deserves to be called the number one talent reality competition? Or will the American Idol 2013 winner be a disappointing flop who is never able to translate their votes on the show into real life success?
