Amber Holcomb may be the underdog of the American Idol 2013 Top 4 finalists, but she hopes this week she can change all that with song choices that show the true power and beauty of her amazing voice. At rehearsals this week, Amber chatted with Wetpaint exclusively about her performances tonight and dropped us spoilers on what she’ll be singing and why.

Tell me about your song.

My song that I chose is “Power Of Love” by Celine Dion. I know, yeah, I picked this song because I mean I love that song. It has moments.

Yeah.

Because I mean, yeah, I think I have what it takes to do that song justice.

Why now?  Why Celine Dion at this point of the competition?

Oh, it’s now even like, oh, now I’m going to do a Celine Dion. I mean, I just picked that song because I don’t know. It’s our choice, and at first I was like, “oh crap” because I don’t know what to do. When they give us the chance to do whatever you want, I’m like, I don’t know. But I instantly thought of her name, and I thought of the Titanic song. And I was like, no, that’s too dramatic. So ‘Power of Love’ was the next one.

When you get that, it’s your choice unlimited, how much do think about what’s good for the show and how much do you think about what you really want to sing?

At first I think of, what do I like?  And then like, I don’t think until after I’ve picked the song, and I like, sing it in my head, oh that sounds good, okay wait. I don’t know. I think of what I like first, and then I think of whether not it will sound good for the show or what can I do to make it a moment. Because you can’t just sing what you like all the time, or you’ll go home.

What would you want to sing, if this wasn’t a competition anymore?

Oh my gosh, I would sing Rihanna. Like, some gangster song she does, maybe “Pour It Up” or something, like, if it wasn’t being judged, yeah. I would sing a Rihanna song.

Do you worry about that at all because clearly you have a more urban side to you, but we know you as like ballad girl?  When you come out of this and you’re like, no, I want to sing Rihanna, what’s going to happen?

I mean, I’m not going to be singing ballads. I don’t want my career to be consist – I mean, I’ll sing a couple but I really don’t see myself as a ballad kind of person. But I feel like they’ll be accepting of it. I have all the American Idol fans, and I’m going to grab some fans over her on the other side. And so it’s like, I don’t know how they’re going to be accepting of it, or how they’re going to take it. But I’m not going to be singing ballads. I mean, you have to showcase what you can do on this show to get further. I mean, it’s kind of a bittersweet situation. You have to sing the ballads and you have to sing the big power voice things because that’s the only way you are going to catch America’s attention.

[Our spoilers from The Idol Pad tell us Amber's second song choice this evening for the theme "one hit wonders— will be "MacArthur Park" by Richard Harris/Donna Summer.]
