As the judges have said for 12 seasons now, a good song choice can propel an American Idol 2013 contestant from week to week, but a bad one can mean the end of the road.
It’s crucial these folks pick something that showcases their vocals in the best possible way, so when The Idol Pad released an American Idol spoilers leaked list of song choices for this week, we were like giddy school children.
We should point out that according to MJs Big Blog, these might not be entirely accurate (perhaps due to last minute song choice changes), but it’s fun to take a look nonetheless. If they are correct, some of these could be intriguing. Let’s take a look at what our American Idol spoilers say are the song choices for the girls this week:
Aubrey Cleland -- “Sweet Dreams” by Beyonce Knowles
Breanna Steer -- “Bust Your Windows” by Jazmine Sullivan
Candice Glover -- “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin
Cristabel Clack -- “No One” by Alicia Keys
Janelle Arthur -- TBD
Jett Hermano (with piano) -- “Only Girl (In The World)” by Rihanna
Juliana Chahayed -- “Skyscraper” by Demi Lovato
Melinda Ademi -- “Nobody’s Perfect” by Jessie J.*
Rachel Hale -- “Nothing But The Water” by Grace Potter And The Nocturnals
Zoanette Johnson -- “Circle Of Life” (from The Lion King) by Elton John
* same song as Angela Miller in week 1 (decided by producers)
Some things jump out at us right away, like the fact that Candice’s song choice is a bit dated and overdone on the show. However, Amber Holcomb did the same last week with “My Funny Valentine,” and the judges were filled with adoration. So it’s not necessarily taboo.
We’re also intrigued by the fact that it looks as though the producers decided Melinda should sing the same song as Angela Miller during week one. What’s that all about? The judges loved Melinda’s last Jessie J. song, but can they really decide for her?
We also love Rachel Hale’s contemporary song choice. We’ve predicted that she would be one of the first to go, but if she can pull off this song, we may have been wrong.
Cristabel already performed an Alicia Keys song in her initial audition (“If I Ain’t Got You”). We’re curious to see if the judges will think that song choice is a bit boring for the singer who’s been dubbed “church girl.”
Songs at the piano usually make quite an impact, so Jett’s performance should be interesting. And we’re anxiously awaiting Janelle’s song choice, as she has yet to make a mistake in the eyes of the judges.
Of course, Zoanette’s song choice is also rather interesting, as you just know she is going to do something over-the-top with “Circle Of Life”.
What do you think of the song choices? If these are correct, who do you think will shine?
