Not many would deny that the girls pretty much spanked the guys during week one of the American Idol 2013 Las Vegas sudden death rounds.
Needless to say, they better step up their game, especially since everyone seems to be secretly (and some not-so-secretly -- we’re talking to you, Nigel) hoping a girl will win this year. And most of it comes down to song choice, so we were thrilled when The Idol Pad’s oh-so-sneaky mole released the choices for this week.
MJ of MJs Big Blog has noted on her site that some of these may not be 100% accurate, but Idol Pad did not disappoint with their Hollywood Week spoilers, so we’re cautiously optimistic. Let’s take a look:
Bryant Tadeo -- “Heaven” by Bryan Adams
Burnell Taylor -- “This Time” by John Legend
Cortez Shaw -- “Titanium” by David Guetta & Sia
David Willis (With Guitar) -- “Fever” by Little Willie John/Peggy Lee
Gurpreet Singh Sarin -- TBD
Josh Holiday -- “Imagine” by John Lennon
Lazaro Arbos -- “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson
Mathenee Treco -- “A Little Less Conversation” by Elvis Presley
Nick Boddington -- TBD
Vincent Powell -- “Cause I Love You” by Lenny Williams
A few things jump out at us from the list. First of all -- so many of them chose older songs. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but -- come voting time -- many people like the hopefuls to sing more contemporary numbers.
We have one thing to say to Bryant -- No! Just no! Hopefully this will be one of the incorrect spoilers, as this is certain Idol poison.
Burnell had a bunch of John Legend music samples online before the show started, so he should do well doing something in his comfort zone.
We’re not sure about Lazaro’s choice -- we love our Kelly girl, but that could either be TV magic or his ticket home. Since we already predicted the latter, we think it could be bad. Very, very bad.
We wish we knew what Gurpreet and Nick were singing, as both of them have had pretty good song choices in the past -- especially Nick singing “Stars” at the piano during Hollywood Week.
Mathenee is another hopeful who is on the bubble for us, and that song may not help his cause. It was the Elvis song Chris Daughtry sang on his controversial exit during season 5, so this could be an Idol curse. Since he is a choreographer, it will be interesting to see if he pulls out some moves this week.
What do you think of the song choices? If these are correct, who do you think will shine?
