If you’re tired of themes on American Idol that have a “been there, done that” feel to them, you’re probably not going to be all that thrilled with next week’s theme. According to the Idol Pad, the Top 8 of season 12 will be performing the songs of Motown. You know how we know that? We heard it through the grapevine. Groan.

According to MJs Big Blog, Kree Harrison told a reporter recently that she’d love to tackle Motown. Now that will be interesting, and you know she can handle just about any theme despite her country inclination. Of course, Candice Glover and Amber Holcomb will be right in their wheelhouse. We have to think Janelle Arthur might struggle with this one but, then again, her performance from the songs of Lennon and McCartney was surprisingly one of the best of the night.

Sadly (or maybe not so sadly), we probably won’t get to hear what country singer Paul Jolley would have attempted with the Motown theme, as we have predicted he will be going home on tonight’s results show.

What theme would you like to see them do this season on American Idol?
