American Idol 2013 may reveal the voting rank of the contestants this season for the first time. If they do, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe wants to be clear they are NOT copying The X Factor USA.

One of the best tweaks to The X Factor USA Season 2 was the addition of weekly voting rank announcements. Knowing your favorite was in the bottom was strong motivation to pull out your cell phone and start dialing!

Nigel Lythgoe says he thought of the idea long before The X Factor USA started doing it last season. In fact, he has wanted to reveal the ranking of American Idol contestants by their vote totals for years.

"Now it looks like we're going to be copying them," Nigel says, according to USA Today. "I thought it was a good move from when we first came here. ... We'll still discuss it. I'm not sure how we'll do it."

American Idol 2013 might even take things even further by showing geographical voting data. "I think it'd be exciting," Nigel says. "I think we'd see if they have hometown support." Let's just hope some poor, unlucky contestant doesn't find out their hometown is voting for the other guy. Ouch!

Do you think knowing the ranks for the American Idol 2013 contestants would change the way you vote?
