While none of the American Idol themes have been officially confirmed for Wednesday’s performance show yet, the leaks have sprung. And if the American Idol spoilers are true, the two themes will be “Songs From the Year You Were Born” and “Divas”.
Nearly all of the singers left in the American Idol Season 12 Top 5 are powerhouse vocalists, so these girls could easily knock it out of the park with these themes. Usually the American Idol judges complain when these singers attempt the divas, so they’ll have to refrain from that this week!
As we always do, we’re going to take a gander as to what we could see them perform this week:
Songs From The Year You Were Born:
Amber Holcomb – 1994 – What’s interesting is 1994 was a huge year for current judge Mariah Carey, but choosing her could be redundant since the second theme is Divas. That being said, Amber would miss out on a serious opportunity if she passed up on the chance to sing Mimi’s “Without You/Never Forget”. She might even make the emotional judge cry, dahlings.
Angie Miller – 1994 – Although we think Angie could do a Mariah song justice as well, we think a good choice for her would be Janet Jackson’s “Again”. She could even perform part of it at her sweet spot – the piano.
Candice Glover – 1989 – We get chills pretty much every time Candice sings, but imagine her taking on Natalie Cole’s “Miss You Like Crazy”. We’d see a more tender side of Candice, and it could be unspeakably good.
Janelle Arthur – 1989 – This might sound weird, but we can kind of picture Janelle having a tender moment if she grabbed her guitar and did an acoustic version of “The End of Innocence” by Don Henley.
Kree Harrison – 1990 – Jimmy Iovine said her performances are getting a bit boring, so Kree might have to shake things up a bit. While Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” is a super slow ballad, we think it’d be an interesting choice for Kree. And, with her vocals, it could be a memorable moment in Idol history.
Amber – This girl could run circles around this theme yet, at the same time, it’s never been more important for her to capitalize. Instead of going with something predictable, like a Whitney Houston song, we’d love for her to sing a song by a modern-day diva. Picture her doing “Skyfall” by Adele. It might just outshine Candice’s Adele moment from last week.
Angie – Jessie J. likely can’t be considered a person of diva status yet, or you know Angie would be itching to perform another song by her idol. But we think her vocals would do justice to a Celine Dion song, and we think she’d do amazing with “Just Walk Away”.
Candice – Etta James’ “At Last” is admittedly a majorly overdone song by hopefuls during the initial auditions, but can you imagine Candice taking this one on with those vocals? Un...wait for it...believable.
Janelle – When one thinks of divas, one doesn’t really think of country singers, but there’s no denying Dolly Parton has reached diva status. Janelle could do amazingly well with a Dolly song, and we’d love to see her sing “Just When I Needed You Most”.
Kree – One can only imagine Janelle and Kree would likely arm wrestle over a Patsy Cline song, but we would hope that Kree would win (despite her pinched nerve). We know that Patsy is a big musical influence for Kree, and she’d kill it with “Walkin’ After Midnight”. What would be interesting is she’s only given us a hint of country thus far, so this could really bring out that side of her, y’all.
What would your song choices be for the American Idol 2013 Top 5?
