We’re halfway through the Las Vegas rounds on American Idol 2013, and it’s starting to get pretty clear which role each of the Season 12 judges will be playing.

Randy Jackson is staying consistent in being the heavy hand. He picked up where Simon Cowell left off, and he doesn’t mince any words when telling people not to quit their day jobs. Also, this past week in Las Vegas round one, he showed us he’s not afraid to go head-to-head with the other American Idol judges. We don’t know about you, but we’re beginning to like the more assertive “Dawg” at the judges' table.

Keith Urban, or Mr. Eye Candy as wel like to call him, is the judge who has perfected how to give feedback. He always starts with a compliment before taking a shot at the vocal, performance, etc. He’s as sweet as we might have expected, but he’s also not afraid to critique. While divas Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey hogged the spotlight before the season began, Keith has become one to watch (which isn’t bad, as he’s pretty tasty to look at).

Mariah was nearly mute the first few shows and hasn't improved all that much so far. Has anyone noticed Ryan Seacrest has been lobbing her some softball questions, just so we can actually hear her voice each episode? She seems to stick with the technical aspects of the performance during the critiques, which might help the singers but leaves the rest of us kind of scratching our heads.

Nicki is our resident chameleon. She was super fun and hilarious during auditions, bestowing “NickiNames” on everyone and just being generally entertaining. Then she brought down the hammer during Hollywood Week, and wasn’t afraid to cut singers off at the knees if she didn’t like what she saw. This past week in Las Vegas, she was -- ahem -- flirtatious, telling Elijah Liu she wanted to have his babies and Kree Harrison that she makes every song “sexy.” Who will she be next? You just never know, and that’s what makes her exciting.

What have you thought about the new American Idol judges so far?
