Are the American Idol judges for Season 12 trying to find another Kelly Clarkson? As you might have seen, inaugural American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson landed at the top of the list of Idol earners for 2012 released by Forbes. If you’re a veteran watcher, like we are, you know the wheels of those behind the Idol Machine are probably turning, and producing another Kelly might not be a bad idea on their part.
As Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe made very clear in the preseason, they are hoping to break the WGWG (White Guy With Guitar) curse this year, and he truly thinks this could be a girl’s season to win.
So who would it be? It’s hard to measure up to Kelly Clarkson, whose songs still dominate on the charts and was even chosen to sing at the President’s recent Inauguration ceremony. The one person we’ve seen thus far who has the potential to measure up is Angela Miller. Her performances have been consistent and powerful. Not only that, but she takes risks -- a very Kelly-like attribute.
Angela took a chance by performing an original number for her solo during Hollywood Week, and as Keith Urban said, if that song, “Set Me Free,” were released right now, he’d be playing it in his car. That’s high praise from the fairly discerning judge!
What do you think -- is American Idol Season 12 trying to create another Kelly Clarkson? Would Angela Miller measure up to the Grammy winner?
