On American Idol 2013 Thursday night, judges Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey will make their final decisions about who will be going to Hollywood Week for Season 12.
The final golden tickets will be handed out tonight in Oklahoma City, not far from the birthplace of former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood. We’ll be covering all the excitement for you right here at Wetpaint with our American Idol live coverage as soon as the show begins!
In the final American Idol auditions show for Season 12, a lucky few will move on to the next round with huge dreams of fame and fortune in their hearts. For everyone pass to the next round given out, however, there will be hundreds who will be turned away with broken hearts.
Who will win American Idol 2013 out of all the auditions from across the country since the season premiere? Have we already seen the eventual winner, or might they just be waiting in the wings to wow us in the final audition show tonight? Right now we have our early prediction for an American Idol Season 12 winner, but it’s really impossible to make more than a guess from the gut at this point.
The American Idol 2013 winner may have already shown their face and their voice to the viewers already. Or, possibly, we’ll see them for the first time in the Oklahoma City auditions tonight. Of course, the next American Idol winner could also be among the huge number of contestants we didn’t get the chance to see audition. I hope not though, because it is so much more fun seeing the top finalists in action for the first time before we have any clue if they will even make it to Hollywood!
Even if the next winner of American Idol isn’t among the auditions tonight from Oklahoma City, there will still be plenty of great talent to watch and enjoy. And, of course, the usual disasters and horrific auditions to cringe at. Plus, we hear there is going to be a special guest audition appearance tonight that you just don’t want to miss.
And here we go!
American Idol 2013 Audition: Zoanette Johnson
Colorfully dressed Zoanette Johnson tells Ryan Seacrest she swore if Obama won the presidential election, she would sing the National Anthem. Once in front of the judges, she does just that, which is rather unfortunate. Hearing such a proud song brought so low is kind of awful. She is terribly off pitchy, screechy and even forgets the lyrics. Nick Minaj, however, says she is “obsessed with you!” To which Zoanette replies, “I am too!” Zoanette goes full freak out and starts saying how the president should invite her to the White House and the judges need to get a move on because she has to get to a lunch date!
What the judges are thinking is entirely beyond me. For some mysterious reason, everyone decides to throw in with Nicki and vote Zoanette through to American Idol 2013 Hollywood Week. Crazy! If you are like me, you'll want to know if this girl actually manages to make it past Hollywood Week. Luckily, you can find out in our spoilers here!
After another break, a “storm of tears,” as Ryan Seacrest says, are flooding through the Oklahoma auditions as rejected hopefuls are forced to deal with their crushed and broken dreams. There are also happy tears as well as some hopefuls are given a golden ticket to a possible future of fame and fortune.
Starting off the show tonight, host Ryan Seacrest hypes up the hopefuls by reminding them the final auditions tonight are in the home state of American Idol winner Carrie Underwood. Will someone going in front of the judges this evening find themselves in her shoes come finale night? Let’s get to the last auditions of Season 12 and see what Oklahoma City has to offer!
American Idol 2013 Audition: Karl Skinner
Karl Skinner says he had no excuse not to audition since the American Idol bus came right through his town of Joplin, MIssouri. This very ginger, plaid-wearing guitarist jumps around and screeches out some craziness that makes the judges laugh. They ask him to do something else and he picks up his guitar for an original rendition. He isn’t the worst thing you’ve ever heard, but he isn’t really sounding like Idol material. Amazingly, the judges seem more swayed by his wild energy than his actual talent and they’ve weirdly decided to put Karl through to Hollywood. Did the judges make the right decision? Will Nate make it past the next round? We can tell you in our American Idol spoilers here!
American Idol 2013 Audition: Anastacia Freeman
Anastacia Freeman looks wobbly on her very high heels and the judges tell her to take them off and be comfy! Anastacia swears she is the next American Idol and everyone else out there should just go home. She performs “Unbreak My Heart” by Toni Braxton. She is, possibly, the worst singer of the singer of the season so far. Well, one of the worst at least. You have to wonder if she can truthfully, honestly believe she has any vocal ability at all.
The judges are shocked she auditioned and want to know who told her she should come. She says “God” told her, personally, to show up for American Idol auditions. This gives the show producers the somewhat horrifying idea to do a dramatization reenactment of the moment with an actress portraying Anastacia like she’s in a Lifetime movie.
Anastacia says she actually heard God’s voice (later, voices) tell her she would be the next American Idol. You don’t want to knock anyone’s faith, of course, but when your voices tell you to audition for a reality TV show without a lick of talent, it’s possible medication might be needed. When the judges give her a unanimous no, Anastacia says she will no longer listen to Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj is a tool of the devil.
After a break, the show moves right into a slew of absolutely horrid auditions of all kinds. Randy Jackson wants to know “what is happening in Oklahoma!” Hopefully not much more of this kind of audition, because my ears are ringing in pain!
American Idol 2013 Audition: Kayden Stephenson
Cue the heart-rending sob story of the evening with adorably cute Kayden Stephenson, who looks 12 but is actually 15. He suffers from a cystic fibrosis and only has a life expectancy of about 35 years. All he has wanted all his life is to sing. He’s amazingly precious and sweet, and his Stevie Wonder rendition is equally as cute. The judges are loving on him though, so they seem to disagree. Mariah says she is “beyond inspired” by this little guy. She thinks “girls will crawl on the floor” when he walks into the room. Even if he isn’t the next Justin Bieber, the judges aren’t going to kill this kid’s dreams. He’s through to Hollywood!
Forty-five contestants in total from Oklahoma City are given golden tickets to Hollywood! Although from this show full of a lot of bad and very little good, you have to wonder where all those singers were the judges thought were good enough to move on to the next round.
But wait! There is one more audition. Some strange, obvious man in a dress going by the name of “Pepper” with huge fake boobs comes in the room talking to the judges in a raspy voice. “Pepper” tries to fool them, but it only takes moments before Nicki is like that is “Steven Tyler!” and the rest of the judges are laughing their heads off. Steven says “he tried so hard... no Hollywood” and wiggles his butt at the judges as he leaves with his head hanging low.
American Idol 2013 Audition: Nate Tao
Nate Tao says his parents weren’t really all that keen about him going into music, but they have supported him... and it turns out both of them are actually deaf. He gives the judges some sweet Stevie Wonder and they are loving his lovely tone and his effortless voice. It’s an easy yes from all the judges and his Dad signs huge congrats to his son when Nate shows off his golden ticket. Dad teaches Ryan some signs, including the one for “superstar.” Will Nate make the Top 40? We have the answer here!
American Idol 2013 Audition: Halie Hilburn
Our next contestant of the evening has been a ventriloquist since she was nine. Halie Hilburn's hand puppet is named Oscar and when she comes in front of the judges, she says it is “‘bout time for someone crazy.” Well, the judges have already had plenty of crazy, but she’s certainly unique.
Halie does a duet of “I Want To Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart” by Patsy Montana between herself and her dummy for the judges. As wacky as she is, Hailey actually doesn’t have a bad country voice. And then her puppet starts yodelling... The judges totally lose it. Mariah wants to know if Hailey was on tour, would she open for Oscar, or would he open for her? Randy says he is just confused and doesn’t know how to vote.
Halie asks if she can sing something by herself, which maybe she should have started off with. Keith Urban says he thinks “Oscar is holding you back.. See the look on his face? He knows it!” Mariah agrees that Hailey needs to dump Oscar and go solo. Once Oscar is out of the picture, Halie gets three yes votes from the judges. Randy Jackson decides he just doesn’t want to be any part of that hot mess even if she does have pipes.
After Halie exits, Ryan says they are going to have to keep Oscar so he doesn’t hold her back anymore. Idol then shows a ridiculous montage of Oscar ending up on the street begging, and then finally smashed in a dumpster, all to the tune of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” But will Halie go on past Hollywood week? Find out here!
