Simon Cowell just can’t quit his old show, American Idol. The former Idol judge now has his own successful franchise in The X Factor, but is still seemingly yearning to judge Idol contestants. Simon tweeted his idea for a “super final” crossover show in which the Idol winner competes against the winners from rival talent shows The  X Factor and The Voice. Turns out, Simon might be missing some Idol action, but the show’s head honcho just isn’t that into the idea.

American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe quickly rejected Simon’s idea, tweeting: “Simon Cowell suggests the Idol winner should take on The Voice and other X-Factor winners. The problem is the Idol winner will be a star by then.” A Twitter user then asked, “Oh really? Exactly how many Idol winners are stars?” Nigel responded brazenly, “Far more than any other show – EVER!”

Nigel previously slammed The Voice, calling it “very gimmicky,” adding, “They need stronger talent.” Idol’s head honcho insists his show is still at the top of its game: “I feel in the wonderful position to be creating stars for American television.”
