They really love starting the results shows off with dramatic intros, don’t they? Tonight is no exception, as we get clips from last night’s show with ominous background music. Dun dun dun!
Various product placement happenings: Jennifer Lopez has a new single and video coming out and she’s on the cover of Vogue. Also, Tommy Hilfiger is going to be this season’s Image Advisor. Excited? Yeah, we’re not either. Can’t they get Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj? They would give some image advice we’d enjoy.
Time for some results! First up are Phillip Phillips, Skylar Laine, Elise Testone, and Joshua Ledet. Jimmy Iovine says: Phillip went far beyond the call of duty, Skylar picked the wrong song but he still expects her to stay, Elise blew his mind, and you “don’t sing that song much better” than Joshua did. Joshua is safe, duh. Phillip is safe, double duh. Elise or Skylar is in the Bottom Three. And it’s... Elise. Lame! She was awesome last night.
Guest performance from Demi Lovato! She’s got a leather jacket and a Guns ‘N Roses shirt and a whole lot of hair. Musically, eh, but she looks cute.
Next up for results: Colton Dixon, Shannon Magrane, DeAndre Brackensick, and Jessica Sanchez. Jimmy says: DeAndre didn’t deliver during the show, Colton was middle-of-the-pack this week, Shannon pushed too hard last night, and if Jessica goes home, we should all go home. Jessica’s not going home, though, and neither is Colton, athough Ryan Seacrest fakes him out for the second week in a row. That leaves Shannon and DeAndre, both of whom should probably be in the Bottom Three. DeAndre is safe, though, so Shannon gets sent over to join Elise on the Stools of Shame.
Daughtry in the house! The song is “Outta My Head” and we’re into it. We’re also into their laser light show; it’s intense!
The last group to get their results are Hollie Cavanagh, Heejun Han, and Erika Van Pelt. Jimmy says: Hollie was fantastic and will do great in this competition, that Heejun is in danger of boring people, and that Erika fell into the trap of oversinging. Hollie’s announced safe. Erika’s in the Bottom Three, which means Heejun is safe, which is super ridiculous — Erika was much better than he was last night — but whatever, we don’t get to decide things.
Ryan asks the judges about the Bottom Three, and they’re all unhappy that Elise is there. (So are we!) Luckily, Ryan sends her back to safety, which means it’s down to Shannon and Erika. It really should be Shannon, but it’ll probably be Erika.
After the break, we learn that the singer with the lowest number of votes is... Shannon. She’s going to get to sing in the hopes that the judges will save her, but let’s be real — they’re not going to save someone going out in 11th place. And Shannon isn’t really helping her own case, unfortunately — this song is just too much for her. We wish she’d waited a couple of years to audition; it just doesn’t seem like she’s ready now.
And as we expected, the judges aren’t saving her. It’s too bad she didn’t make the tour — it probably would’ve been really good experience for her. But that’s the way Idol goes!
What do you think? Did the right person go home tonight? Do you think the judges should’ve saved Shannon? Let us know!
