Could a country singer take the American Idol Season 12 crown this year? And if so, will it be Texas native Kree Harrison? We think it is very highly possible.
When Josh Gracin hit the American Idol stage during Season 2 with a distinctive country music flair, the judges (and probably many viewers) were skeptical. Ten seasons later, country artists are taking the Idol stage by storm. Many twang-heavy hopefuls have done extremely well, like Season 10’s Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina.
Although we predicted that this season’s winner would be more of an Adele-meets-Beyonce singer, Kree Harrison is forcing us rethink our forecast. She's already made the Top 9, and after a fabulous performance this week, could very well go to the Top 2 and beyond.
Kree is a Texas native who currently resides in Nashville and has been singing since she was a wee one. She even went on The Rosie O’Donnell Show at the ripe age of eight to perform and returned three more times. Lyric Street Records (an imprint of Disney) caught wind of this young talent and signed her at the age of 12. But creative differences — namely, the fact that Kree wanted to stick to her country roots — ended her relationship with the label.
It’s a good thing for American Idol, too, as that made Kree eligible for the show. And although she lost out to Candice Glover in the Top 2, we think American Idol will just be the start of a long and successful career for Kree going forward from here!
