Ever wanted to attend a live American Idol show? Join the crowd! While we might not be able to promise that, per se, the folks behind the reality show are giving you the next best thing.
Starting this Thursday, April 11, for the Top Six results show (8 p.m.-9 p.m. on FOX), you’ll get the live show experience with a new live, on-screen camera feed during the commercial break. There will be a double-box live camera feed of the show during the commercials for their official sponsors, like Ford, Coca-Cola, and AT&T.
Here is the official statement via the FOX press release on this new feature:
When AMERICAN IDOL cuts to commercial break later in the show, the behind-the-scenes excitement will continue LIVE during the ad break, giving viewers an exclusive peek from backstage, the IDOL stage and the audience. The LIVE show content will appear on-screen simultaneously alongside each official sponsor’s commercial airing during the results show. Also, the official series sponsors will gain added exposure with on-screen graphics and wraps in these double-boxed commercial pods.
The new feature will help you feel connected and give you a “heightened” feeling during the breaks–hence the live show experience. If you ever read The Hollywood Reporter’s “Idol Worship” section, you know that a lot goes on backstage that we don’t see, so this will surely be an interesting glimpse into the inner workings of the show.
In addition to the SuperVote feature and live tweets during the show, the powers that be are working hard to give you a more interactive this season on American Idol. What do you think?
