American Idol 2013 is getting down to the wire, and only seven hopefuls remain for this Wednesday’s performance show (8 p.m.-10 p.m. CT on FOX).
The guys have only two representing at this point and, if the girls continue to dominate vocally the way they have up until now, it could be down to five girls soon enough. Rumor has it Nicki Minaj wants to see an all-girl finale, although she’s been a real ally for Lazaro Arbos (whom she calls “Fonzie” and/or “Ricky Ricardo”).
The theme for the American Idol Season 12 Top 7 is certainly going to be a challenge for the remaining singers, as it is “Classic Rock, No Ballads”. Get out your lighters–it’s “Free Bird” time!
Up tempo numbers have been few and far between and the ones we’ve seen so far have been fairly cringe-worthy. Even Angie Miller, who has been touted as the potential winner since Hollywood Week, took a giant step back last week with an abysmal performance of “Shop Around”.
The only contestant we’ve seen really rock out was Candice Glover, who stunned with a stellar rendition of “Come Together” a couple of weeks ago. This theme could spell trouble for a lot of these ballad-loving singers (“Laz,” in particular!). Let's hope being forced out of the ballad box will really show us who deserves to move on in the competition as we race toward the American Idol 2013 finale.
