Rhode Island native Erika Van Pelt auditioned for American Idol Season 11 in Pittsburgh, Pennsyvania. She did not originally make it through the semi-finals round of Season 11 based on her performance, but was selected to be one of six wildcard performers and was chosen to move on to the Top 13. With her powerhouse soul-inflected vocals, we were sad to see Erika get cut from the Season 11 Top 10 during Billy Joel week.
Since making her exit from American Idol, the Berklee College of Music grad returned to Boston and performs throughout the New England area. She also runs her own DJ company called VP Entertainment, and sings regularly with well-known swing groups around Boston.
Earlier this year, she hosted and performed on a Royal Caribbean cruise to Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Haiti. Erika van Pelt is also in the process of recording her debut album, according to her Facebook.
“I feel really blessed to be making an indie record, done my way,” she wrote. “No label, and all the freedom in the world. I can't wait for you all to hear it!” Keep up on her latest news on her Twitter feed.
