We may only be two months in, but I’m already calling 2013 as “The Year of Kelly Clarkson.” Not only does the newly engaged singer have some amazing recent performances under her belt, like her stellar rendition of “My Country Tis Of Thee” at the President’s Inauguration, but she snagged yet another Grammy at last night’s prestigious awards for “Best Pop Vocal Album” for “Stronger.”
American Idol Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood also won a Grammy for “Blown Away,” adding to the five Grammys she already had going into the exciting evening. Apparently these two former American Idol winners just don't know when to stop winning! The happily married singer also impressed with her performance of a medley of her hit song “Blown Away” and her latest single, “Two Black Cadillacs.”
While Carrie was fabulous during her performance last night, it was Kelly who stole the show during her delightful and entirely amusing acceptance speech. No matter how famous or rich she gets, Kelly will always be the girl who thinks the phrases ‘cool beans’ and ‘y’all’ should be part of everyone’s working vocabulary.
“Thank you all so much,” the American Idol winner said as she accepted her Grammy with a somewhat shocked and bemused look on her face. As she’s done a lot in the media recently, Kelly took the opportunity to gush a tiny bit over handsome future husband Brandon Blackstock. She thanked the audience “and my fiancé, who is sexy tonight. I did not think I was going to win. Thank you!”
Of course, it wouldn’t be the Kelly we know and love if she didn’t crack a joke. She snagged the lace netting on her gorgeous black gown on the way up to accept the award.
About the incident, she said, “I got stuck on Miranda Lambert. There's a story and a song. For later, after alcohol," she joked. "I'm just kidding, children. I get nervous speaking in front of people."
What’s even more hilarious is the fact that she laughed about the now-notorious pic of Bill Clinton photo-bombing her during her Inauguration performance, and she turned around and did the same to Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi last night.
On a more serious note, Kelly was the consummate professional during her amazing performance at the Grammys. She paid tribute to the Lifetime Achievement Award winners Patty Page and Carole King by singing their songs, “The Tennessee Waltz” and “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman.”
Seriously -- we just want to hang with her, don’t you?
