Let’s face it even with the power and might behind the American Idol machine, some of the contestants go on to relative obscurity. Many from Season 11, however, are proving they will not go gentle into that good night. With Phillip Phillips’ skyrocketing career and Jessica Sanchez landing a spot on Glee, it’s a season that has already made its mark.

Now, Colton Dixon is ensuring he’ll be part of the legacy.

The singer, known for his moving performances and megawatt smile, is set to release his debut album, A Messenger, via EMI-CMG/Sparrow Records on January 29. The Hollywood Reporter is calling it an “11-song collection of modern, inspirational power-rock.” It will feature the single “You Are,” which launched itself to No. 1 in its first week on the iTunes Christian and Gospel singles chart.

If you went and saw the American Idol Tour, you might also recognize the song “Never Gone,” an original number from when the Season 11 gang hit the open road this past summer.

The album is backed by some producers with experience working with other Idol alums in the past. Gannin Arnold has worked with Kelly Clarkson, while mega producer busbee produced for Chris Daughtry.

Colton will go on a 46-day tour after the album’s release as a special guest supporting the band Third Day. The tour starts in Fairfax, VA, on February 21. He’ll also join Jessica at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila for a Valentine’s Day concert.
