It turns out American Idol is full of some of the most powerful — and the richest — stars in Hollywood! Judge Jennifer Lopez topped the Forbes “Celebrity 100 List” this year, beating out the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, and Justin Bieber. Meanwhile, host Ryan Seacrest sat pretty at the top of The Hollywood Reporter’s “50 Most Powerful List” for Reality TV.
Jennifer, who’s been listed on the “Celebrity 100” seven times before (but never at the number one spot) is lauded not just for her work on Idol over the past year, but also for three films, another perfume launch, and her music sales. This killer combo skyrocketed her to the top of the list. Jen made an estimated $52 million in the last year. But with her future at Idol no longer certain, we’re curious if she’ll be able to duplicate her victory next year. Elsewhere on the Forbes list, Ryan Seacrest ranked 29th and former Idol judge Simon Cowell came in at 18th.
Meanwhile, Ryan’s success with hosting Idol is a drop in the bucket compared to what he’s accomplished with his company, Ryan Seacrest Productions. He’s produced Keeping Up With the Kardashians and several other television shows, as well as his radio program, On Air With Ryan Seacrest. His annual income is estimated at $50 million per year. With a slew of other projects in the pipeline and some meaty hosting gigs (including the Olympics and covering the presidential election for NBC) coming up, we don’t see Ryan’s list domination stopping anytime soon. By topping The Hollywood Reporter’s roster, Ryan beat out former faux-rival Simon Cowell, who placed eighth on the list. Also worth noting is Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe’s position at 34th.
Those are some powerful idols of a different ilk!
