Burnell Taylor is undoubtedly the underdog to root for on American Idol season 12. While everyone continues to insist this is a girl’s season to lose, this Louisiana native quietly hits the stage each week and makes his mark. Even during Beatles week, when he admitted to not knowing the song, he gave a rendition of “Let It Be” that was tender and unique. While others continue to underestimate Burnell, we think he’ll continue to fly under the radar and stick around for at least a while longer.
Last week, the singer, who has lost over 40 pounds since his tryout in Baton Rouge, continued to impress with a chilling rendition of “My Cherie Amour”. American Idol judge Nicki Minaj said that song reminded them of why they fell in love with his voice, and that she could see him back in the Motown days. As Jimmy Iovine said, his “weapon” is his subtlety, and we hope he continues to use this for weeks to come. Watch out, girls, Burnell is (quietly) gunning for you!
