Season 4 American Idol winner Carrie Underwood is stepping up to support gay marriage. According to The Independent, the country cutie — who’s married to hockey star Mike Fisher — wants to see rights equality, particularly in the marriage arena.

“As a married person myself,” she explained, “I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love and want to marry… I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”

Carrie also mentioned that her own place of worship carries the same message. “Our church is gay friendly… Above all, God wanted us to love others… It’s not up to me to judge anybody,” she said.

Carrie’s words come on heels of L.A. Pride this weekend.  Way to make a stand, Carrie!
