The news of Steven Tyler’s departure from American Idol came as a shock to many. In an exclusive interview earlier today, we had the unfortunate task of breaking the news to Season 10 contestant and sixth place finisher Casey Abrams that Steven would not be returning to judge on Idol.

“My God,” he said upon hearing the news. “I mean, I think Idol was a good platform for him as well to start releasing new music and I hope he releases even more music. The song he did on the finale, ‘Legendary Child,’ it’s catchy and a good, older Aerosmith kind of thing.”

More than anything, explained Casey, it’s the next batch of Idol contestants who will be hit the hardest. “I think it’s gonna suck for the contestants,” he said. “I think it was a great experience being judged by him... They're not going to find anyone funnier than him.”

Speculating as to why Steven would quit Idol, Casey joked, “It must be a boring gig.”

So who could fill the Aerosmith frontman’s hilarious shoes? “I think I’d make a good judge,” Casey chimed. Pausing, he added, “I did come in sixth place, so maybe not.”

But there’s one thing Casey is adamant about: The judges have to fit very specific roles. “You have to have a musician, you have to have a hot chick, and you have to have a crazy dude,” he declared.

With the current crop of singers being considered as potential Idol judges, it sounds like Casey might be onto something!
