Casey James’ first impression may have been going shirtless for then-judge Jennifer Lopez during his American Idol audition, but it was his soulful bluesy-country sound that got him to an impressive third place on season nine. People likely remember his love for his guitar, and he was probably one of the most talented musicians we’ve seen on the show.

He’s been flying a bit low on the radar since his time on the show and, according to his bio page on his web site, this is by design. He spent a lot of time in Nashville collaborating with some established songwriters, and finally released his self-titled debut album in March of last year. It landed at an impressive No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, so it was worth the wait. Touring with big-name bands like Sugarland has helped him to hone his craft, and we’ll surely be impressed when he returns to the American Idol 2013 stage to perform “The Good Life”.

No matter what happens, Casey plans on pursuing music for the rest of his life. As he says, “I’m always gonna play music whether that’s for ten people in a smoky bar, millions of viewers on American Idol, or 50,000 people in a stadium if I’m ever that lucky.” He’ll be in good company, performing on the same night as American Idol sweetheart Carrie Underwood, but we have a feeling Casey will live up to the expectations.
