Jessica Sanchez’s time in the Philippines has appeared to be a total love fest, but her warm welcome in the Southeast Asian country has been criticized by the manager of another Filipino artist.

Courtney Blooding, who manages singer Charice (known in the U.S. for her role as Sunshine Corazon on Glee), questioned why the American Idol runner-up has been embraced so heartily by the Filipino media and fans.

“Here is the question...why do the Philippines claim Jessica Sanchez? Jessica was born [sic] an raised in the US. I don't THINK she speaks tagalog,” tweeted Courtney of Jessica, who is American-born and of Mexican and Filipino descent.

She mentioned that Jessica’s visit to the country this week was her very first time in the Philippines, and that being of mixed heritage and having been born in the U.S. make her American first and foremost. Courtney also said she was “insulted” by the idea that Filipinos don’t recognize talent on their home turf before other countries do.

“Ph can’t claim something that is made in USA,” Courtney wrote, referring to Jessica. “And they only wanted to claim Charice after people in the USA put value in her. It’s wrong for both singers.”

Those are some pretty honest observations! What do you think of the argument?
