Colton Dixon has made no secret about the fact that he takes his Christian beliefs seriously on American Idol, even though producers warned him early on that it might hurt him in the long run.

“When we first started the Twitter and Facebook stuff, they said beware of political and religious tweets,” Colton shared with TODAY.com. Nonetheless, the 20-year-old contestant chose to ignore that piece of advice. “Being a Christian is who I am,” he explained.

In fact, Colton’s goal is to go into Christian music after the show and uses his religion to cope with the stress of the show. “I wake up and I do devotional every morning, “ he revealed. “It reminds me why I am here, which is to share the love of God.”

We admire Colton’s decision to be who he is, no matter how the viewers perceive it. Still, do you think he should have taken the producers’ advice? Sound off below!
