Colton Dixon and those infamous pearly whites are set to return to the American Idol stage for Thursday’s results show. He’ll perform his new single, “Love Has Come For Me,” off his debut album, A Messenger. While his appearance on the show will certainly boost his CD sales, he’s shown he can do just fine on his own. In fact, the album sold 22,000 copies in its first week, and debuted at #15 on the Billboard Hot 200, #1 on the U.S. Christian Chart, and #1 on the U.S. Gospel Chart.
Despite touring with contemporary Christian band Third Day, Colton says he still makes time to watch Idol. And he maintains that you don’t have to win to have a long and successful career. "I definitely encourage those who are still on," he said in an interview with breathecast.com. "I mean I was seventh and I have an album out. You've got Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry–none of these people won, but they're doing so well. So I just want those who are still on to get ready to start working–as soon as they're eliminated or when they start working."
The season 11 finalist admits he got a bit emotional when watching Angie Miller perform his single, “Never Gone,” on the show. “Angela Miller, who's on Idol right now, killed 'Never Gone.' It was so good, man it was awesome. [I] might have gotten a little teary-eyed.” We see a duet in their future!
