Currently starring in Jekyll and Hyde with Deborah Cox on Broadway, Constantine Maroulis is one of our favorite American Idol success stories. Previously nominated for an Tony Award for his lead performance in Rock of Ages, Constantine has received rave reviews from The New York Times and The New York Daily News for his latest role as well.
Since he was eliminated in sixth place on American Idol Season 4, Constantine Maroulis has enjoyed a flourishing musical career and become a darling of the Broadway stage. In addition to his critically acclaimed and award-winning performances in hit musicals like The Wedding Singer, Rock of Ages, and Jekyll and Hyde, the former American Idol finalist has also starred in several independent films and is a regular contributor to the Loukoumi series of children’s books by author Nick Katsouris as the voice of Gus the Bear.
Wetpaint had the chance to speak exclusively to Constantine about his late role on Broadway, his thoughts on controversial judge Nicki Minaj, and who his favorite American Idol 2013 finalist to win this season is.
On his new Broadway role:
I’m starring in Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway with Deborah Cox through the summer. It’s a beautiful production. We’re really excited, it’s very sexy, very rock and roll. Come check it out.
Who his favorite pick is this season on American Idol 2013:
I haven’t been able to tune in as much because I’m on stage when the show is on, but I usually find a way to catch up. I think Angie’s really good when she’s at the piano and doing her Christian pop thing. I think she’s pretty great actually.
What he thinks about the new judges and casting judges in the future:
I think after this many seasons, it’s really important for them to keep things fresh and keep mixing it up. It’s only normal for a show that’s been on the air for so long and been so successful needs to make changes to keep up the momentum. Ultimately, though, it should be about the contestants. I mean, it’s great when you have these powerhouse judges but it’s really about the kids and their opportunity.
His feelings on Nicki Minaj:
I think she’s an interesting character. She’s had a lot of success in a short amount of time. She makes an interesting television character. She represents something different, something very different than, say, a diva like Mariah Carey or Jennifer Lopez.
