If you have an encyclopedic knowledge about American Idol like we do, you might recall that everyone’s favorite season 8 flower child, Crystal Bowersox, nearly left the show mid-run.

According to the New York Post, the Ohio-born singer cited the “grueling schedule and aggressive attention” that made her question what was the point. It was charming host and man of a thousand jobs, Ryan Seacrest, who lured her back to the American Idol machine, and now the two have paired up again.

Crystal premiered her new single,”Dead Weight,” on “On Air with Ryan Seacrest,” and the buzz has been quite positive. Her reps call the tune a “slow-burn, words-of-wisdom ballad,” and Crystal shares her connection to the song:

“This song means more to me than even I can completely comprehend. I feel like it’s one of those tunes where the meaning will get deeper and deeper over time as you start to really live, and actualize the words into your existence. It’s about knowing in your heart, that not knowing the outcome is perfectly acceptable; breathe. I’m still figuring it out, myself.”

The folksy singer gave fans a real treat by granting a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album, which was produced under her new label, Shanachie Records. All That For This follows up her critically acclaimed debut effort, Farmer’s Daughter, and her reps say it “promises the same fusion of emotive folk-rock and country-tinged soul.” Not to mention, it includes a dream collaboration for Crystal, as one song features a duet with Jakob Dylan.
