Like Randy Jackson said, no one was safe this week on American Idol. With 7 strong contenders, it was anyone’s guess who would be sent home tonight. Tweets from the show’s insiders (namely host Ryan Seacrest and producer Nigel Lythgoe) alluded to a “very shocking” elimination.
They weren’t kidding! Everyone, including the judges and mentor Jimmy Iovine, was collectively shocked over the bottom 3 chosen by voters: Joshua Ledet, Elise Testone, and Jessica Sanchez.
“They got it wrong, they got it so wrong,” Randy Jackson said of the outcome, shaking his head in disappointment.
The disbelief continued as it was revealed that Jessica was to be sent home based on the nationwide vote. Consistently a favorite amongst the judges and viewers alike, it was sheer madness that she would end up in the bottom three (which has never happened to her), let alone voted off the show. The pint-sized singer barely got through her save song before Jennifer Lopez walked up on stage, yanked the microphone out of Jessica’s hand and wrapped her arms around the girl, yelling, “You ain’t going home! Go sit down.” The judges unanimously — and overwhelmingly — agreed to save Jessica from elimination.
When asked how she felt about tonight’s outcome, the ever-humble 16-year-old said, “I don’t expect anything...whatever happens happens, and I just want people to know I’ve been working hard my whole life.”
But America did place Jessica as the lowest vote-getter — unless you believe the “it was all a set-up” conspiracy theorists that are already taking over Twitter. So what do you think? Did Jessica deserve to be saved?
