American Idol is looking at a serious facelift before its Season 12 return next year.

In a conference call with reporters Monday, Fox execs announced plans to respond to the show’s recent ratings decline by implementing “some creative reinvigoration” before next season, says The Wall Street Journal.

Execs wouldn’t spill whether the facelift includes changing the lineup of current judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson — but they were reportedly very pleased that both Steven’s band Aerosmith and J.Lo joined the performance roster for Season 11. Jennifer herself, though, has been iffy about her intent to remain on the panel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox’s Peter Rice suggested the Idol competition should begin “creating more urgency, given the increasingly crowded marketplace this season.”

Exact details about what that means for the show have not yet been unveiled.
