America gave metal a chance, but decided it preferred country. James Durbin ended his rocking run on American Idol, just missing that crucial Top 3 spot.

Overcoming a background fraught with difficulties, James won fans with a slew of standout performances, from “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” by Carole King to Sammy Hagar’s “Heavy Metal.” Full of boyish charm, a boatload of high notes, and adoration for his fellow contestants, it’s no wonder James quickly became a favorite to win. We will definitely miss James, but we’re positive he will have an incredible career (Daughtry, anyone?) and is anxious to get back to his family. Check out some of his best performances below. Long live the rock, Durbz!
