We reported recently about how record sales have been slipping for American Idol alums in the past few years. Idol-ers just aren’t selling with the numbers of Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson anymore — or even Clay Aiken. But remember: the advent of digital downloading has meant lower numbers for everyone, even the Underwoods of the music world.

So all that said, by the more modest standards of recent years, Season 10 runner-up and total folk mama turned pop star Crystal Bowersox has been blowing the socks off the competition — that means you, Lee DeWyze. Just calling it like we see it, Lee. No hard feelings?

Mamasox’s debut album, Farmer’s Daughter, has held strong in its second week, dropping only 35% to a grand total of 96,000 records sold. That’s only 2k off of DeWyze’s Live It Up, which has been out since November. Nice going!

So let’s give it up for Crystal! And give Lee a big “E” for effort. We (and your mom) still think you’re a winner, Lee, even if no one else does!

Here are the sales numbers this week for other Idol alums:
  • Crystal Bowersox, Farmer's Daughter (38,000, -35%, 96,000 total) (#47 Billboard 200)
  • Carrie Underwood, Play On (31,000, +22%, 1.917 million) (#61 BB200)
  • Fantasia, Back to Me (16,000, +35%, 376,000) (#115 BB200)
