After a series of dismal auditions, Paul Jolley lived up to his name and put a smile upon the faces of the judges in Baton Rouge.
The Nashville, Tennessee resident dedicated his performance to his recently deceased grandfather and sang Rascal Flatts’s “I Won’t Let Go.” The judges loved his unique country sound and unanimously gave him the go-ahead for Hollywood.
Paul managed to survive and make it into the Season 12 Top 40? The American Idol judges were impressed by his performance of Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" and sent him through to Vegas. In the Vegas 'sudden death' rounds, Paul Jolley dared to perform "Tonight I Wanna Cry" by judge Keith Urban.
Although he did not garner universal praise for his performance, it was enough compared to the other 9 guys that performed during his night to get him through to the Top 20. Much to quite a few fans' surprise (including us), he managed to get voted into the Top 10!
Sadly, the journey ended for Paul on March 21, 2013, when he was cut from the Top 9 after singing The Beatles's "Eleanor Rigby." He sang for the judges' save, performing Heart's "Alone," but they couldn't come to a unanimous agreement.
