American Idol Season 12 finalist Janelle Arthur did not do so well last week with either of her performances. While it’s obvious the American Idol judges like her, Janelle has failed to really deliver a lot of “wow” moments this season. She’s come close to being eliminated and it seems highly possible she will be the next girl sent home.

We kind of feel bad for Janelle Arthur, who might have been a stronger contender for the American Idol winner’s crown in a different season. Unfortunately for Janelle, this year she’s up against another country singer with a wider range, more commercial appeal and more cross-genre potential — Kree Harrison.

The country vote is a huge force on reality TV singing competitions,  as we know from past winners like Carrie Underwood on Idol and Tate Stevens on The X Factor. However, it isn’t necessarily strong enough to propel two country singers all the way to the American Idol finale. As it stands, Kree is managing to land in the Top 3 even with a somewhat split country vote, and that just doesn’t leave much room for Janelle to progress much farther in the competition.

Two great performances this week might be able to win Janelle through to the next round over another lagging finalist like Amber Holcomb, but even that may not be enough to save her. Watch Janelle’s American Idol performances from Top 5 and speak up on whether or not you think this country girl’s time is done!
